More from Less

Design a strategy that helps farmers maximize production with the decreasing resource of farmland.

One of the biggest challenges in the agriculture industry is the decrease in available land suitable for agricultural purposes worldwide. Since 1982, more than 31 million acres of US agricultural land has been lost to urban expansion.  Every hour, an estimated 175 acres of farm and ranchland are lost to urban development.

As the global population continues to grow, the demand for food and feed also rises, putting pressure on existing farmland resources. However, the expansion of urban areas, industrial development, and degradation of fertile land due to factors like soil erosion and desertification are reducing the amount of land available for farming.
